Mayor's Message

The Salmon Arm and Shuswap Agricultural Association has been an integral part of our community for over 100 years and this year’s  theme  "Celebrate Critters, Crafts and Competition", nicely summarizes  what  is the heart and soul of our Annual Fall Fair.

The Fair offers a wonderful opportunity for everyone to participate; to compete in the many categories, to show off a little, or just to come and enjoy what your neighbors have offered to share, whether it’s their products, animals, hobbies, or the rich variety of talent.  The Midway and the Vendor Booths are always great attractions. Whatever interests you is sure to be found at this years’ Fair.

Of course Kudos are due to President Phil Wright, the executive, and all the members of the Association for all the work that they do to ensure a successful event. They also would be the first to point out that this event FOR the community is as much BY the community and appreciate the work done by all involved, including the many volunteers, the participants, and of course the fairgoers.

I encourage all to take in as much of the fair as possible, enjoy the competitions, the displays, the entertainment, and that awesome food. In short, have a great time.

President Message 2011

Welcome to our 2011 Fair, which has the theme of “Celebrate Critters, Crafts and Competition”.
This theme is particularly apt as the Fair encourages participation from all ages of exhibitors and as the divisions offer opportunities for a wide and diverse range of interest and expertise. Competition is more than measuring oneself against other exhibitors; it is also a personal challenge to complete a project that has required a commitment of time energy and expertise in its creation.
This project may have required acquiring new skills or refining and practicing techniques and knowledge that have been used in past endeavors.  Learning and mastering new skill sets and applying existing ones are rarely acquired without the social interaction and encouragement of others.  Friendships are developed through pursuing a common interest or hobby that enriches life experiences. These mentors, teachers and fellow students enrich, extend and support lifelong learning and participation in the community.
Exhibits can be the result of a lifetime of dedication and skill development or can be more immediate as demonstrated by our younger exhibitors.  However the personal involvement, pride and satisfaction of going public with a project is a validation of personal confidence and challenge.
The Fair organizers are grateful for the support of our many sponsors, volunteers, exhibitors and patrons who make the Fair an outstanding Salmon Arm community event.

Phil Wright
President  2011
